#01 - Introduction

Developing a product usually involves working through many questions, understanding relationships, and learning new things along the way.

Most of that process stays hidden from the public: sketches, calculations, test setups, prototype parts, small failures. Much of the information never leaves the workshop and remains in CAD folders, spreadsheets, lab notes — or simply in the heads of the engineers involved.

With Development Insights we want to change that and share parts of the process.

This series is a place to document technical background and development notes from suspension projects at SIMONS.LAB — especially around damping systems, adjustability, and the challenge of creating setups that work across different riders and conditions.

This is not meant to be a polished marketing channel. Instead, the goal is to share the kind of technical context that is often missing when looking at suspension components from the outside — what happens between an initial idea, a working prototype, and a system that can actually be tuned and understood.

In particular, the blog will include:

  • design decisions and the reasoning behind them
  • constraints that shape development work
  • insights gained through research and testing
  • observations from prototypes and measurements

If you are interested in learning how damping systems work, what adjustability really means in practice, or how suspension performance is shaped through engineering choices and iteration, this series is meant for you.
